Overview

Let’s request production access for SES.

Step 1: Go to the AWS management console and choose your region from the top right corner.

Choose the region where your business is located to comply with local regulations.

These regions are supported:

Step 2: Go to the SES console

a. Click the Account dashboard.

b. Click the Request production access button. Make sure you are in the correct region. (see the top right corner)

c. Choose mail type: Transactional or marketing.

Choose the one that you need the most. It doesn’t matter after you get the access.

Fill in the form. It’s always good to include a website URL. If you don’t have one, add SelfMailKit.com.

d. If they ask you to describe your use case, you can copy and paste from the relevant tab below:

1. Email Authentication & Security:
   - SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configured for all sending domains
   - Dedicated subdomains for transactional emails (e.g., mail.example.com)
   - No-reply addresses avoided. All emails include reply-to addresses
   - Smart domain warmup to build and maintain sender reputation

2. Infrastructure & Monitoring:
   - SNS topics configured for delivery, bounces, complaints, and rejections
   - Lambda functions process all email events in real time
   - Hard bounce and complaint rate is regularly monitored and maintained below 5% and 0.1% respectively
   - All hard bounced and complained addresses are automatically removed from future sends

3. Email Types:
   - Account verification emails
   - Password reset notifications
   - Order confirmations
   - Shipping updates
   - Security alerts
   - Two-factor authentication codes
   - Other similar transactional emails

e. Click the Submit button.

It can be instantly approved or they will ask you for more information such as how many emails you plan to send etc. If you’re unsure, contact us and we will continue to talk to them on your behalf.

Step 4. Congratulations!

You have successfully requested production access for SES.

Generally, they give access with a quota of 50,000 emails per 24-hour period. This is usually enough as it’s a daily quota. If you need more, you can always contact them, and they will increase it.

SelfMailKit is designed to handle millions of emails per day. So, there is no need to inform us if you increase the quota.
